PRITCHETT YOUR REF OUR REF M/5. 26th May 1930. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Fowler Clark, Esq., Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Fowler Clark, In reply to yours of the 20th inst. re ignition points, it will be interesting to hear what Mr. Bellringer says. I was talking about the matter to a friend of mine, a very old owner of Rolls Royce cars, who has the same trouble. He has had two or three 20's and has always had the trouble, and he says that in a large circle of friends owning these cars he does not know one who has not had it. He further says that possibly you might not have had complaints because the average Rolls Royce owner now is less critical than he used to be in the old days, there are more of them and a different class of people and a large number would not know of a slight misfire at low speed and I think there is a good deal in this. Some months ago I met a woman who had a 20 and very pleased with it, saying what a beautiful car and how wonderfully it went etc. A day or two later I drove it and I do not think it was going on more than four cylinders at low speeds, possibly only three, but she was quite happy! The next time my car begins to misfire I will if you like take it up and see Mr. Bellringer and he can report exactly what he finds wrong, though the trouble is always cured by touching up and cleaning up the points. I wish you could get to the bottom of it because the car is so very good when it is running properly. Yours sincerely, GRNMinchin | ||
