X2894 To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. from EFC. c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EFC2/AD27.5.30. X.2894. BATTERY IGNITION TUNGSTEN CONTACT POINTS. Irregular action of the battery ignition tungsten contact points, more particularly on 20 HP. cars, has now been reported to us from one or two different sources. Although from the majority of sources no trouble has been reported we are anxious to investigate as fully as possible the occurrence of such irregular action, and it has occurred to us that a good way would be to seal one or two distributors (having started these off with new contact points) in such a way that they would not be disturbed, and the tungsten points not touched up until or unless trouble definitely occurred due to this cause. We feel that at present there is more touching up to contact points than is asked for in the Instruction Book or than is really desirable from an experimental point of view, whereas we are anxious, as in fact applies to all cases of items of the electrical equipment, to obtain from such items on experimental cars the maximum amount of experimental evidence. We would therefore like to arrange in conjunction with you, suitably to seal and put a label on in some cases with a definite request to make no alteration to the inside of the distributor and contact breaker without duly recording and reporting to us the observed circumstances which render such procedure necessary, and also exactly the nature of the change or adjustments made. We are asking for this precaution particularly in view of the fact that experimental cars are frequently away from ourselves for considerable periods of time. EFC. | ||
