Condemning the use of Whittle type fan belts with fibre inserts due to noise and risk of breakage.

We agree with the Test Department that the Whittle type belts with the fibre links should not be used on our cars because of the noise they cause and risk of breakage. In our memo Hsl/LG19.4.20, addressed to O.{Mr Oldham}, copies of Srn, Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}, and Mr. Humpston, we did condemn the belts with fibre links. We condemned them because there was not sufficient elasticity in the fibre. We were under the impression at that time that the belts from Canada with fibre links had been cancelled because of them being too large for our pulleys. The further belts of this type 9/16 instead of 5/8 which were sent in to us, were condemned because of them breaking, - see our memo. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG11.12.19. addressed to By.{R.W.
