In connection with modified armature working at much higher current density in the armature conductors, we understand that a reduction in the time of the standard stalling test is contemplated from 5 minutes to 1 minute, and that it is necessary with the high temperature reached by this new experimental armature to test with the brush cover removed, and with extra cooling provided by a fan. We feel that we ought not to attempt too much in departing from standard practice relating to our own and other makes of starter motors, and before reducing the severity of our production tests we should like to know if the Bosch and other makes of starter motor are incapable of passing these tests.
