D.W.S. JACKS.

Whilst trying out a new type of D.W.S. jack handle in the Test Dept. yesterday, we found that the rear jacks on the chassis we were using were fitted on the wrong sides.

We arranged a long time ago with the D.W.S. people that all their jacks should be stamped O.S. or N.S. as the case may be: this has been done but they are apparently not being fitted up correctly in the works. The front jack is distinguishable from the others by the fact that its operating shaft is longer than the rear ones.

The jacks when fitted in their correct position are lowered to the ground by a clockwise rotation of the handle, if they are fitted on the wrong sides they are lowered by an anti-clockwise rotation of the handle. There is a correct way of engaging the handle with the jack operating shafts, it should be slipped on the shaft so that the axis of the handle tube is below the axis of the jack operating shaft. If this is not done the correct direction of rotation of handle again becomes reversed.
