Please quote our reference: S.1. SALES DIRECTOR'S OFFICE. 16th April 1937. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Attention of Mr. S. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Grylls. Dear Sirs, We beg to acknowledge receipt of yours dated 9th April, Ref: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}/R, dealing with our revised debit for the original experimental Jackall fitted to your Phantom III chassis. Regarding your criticism of the charge, as already explained, we concentrated on the design, manufacture and supply of a suitable system to the exclusion of all other Jackall work. Our Jackall fitting engineers were exclusively employed on this job for several weeks, and the fitting costs alone amount to a figure much in excess of the proposed debit. We regret that you should describe our effort as agricultural and would like to point out that your own representative, when he inspected the completed job, congratulated our Fitting Manager and explained that your folk at Derby had been unsuccessful in their efforts to evolve a satisfactory bracket. We are sure you will appreciate, in the circumstances, that we have incurred a considerable expense in this matter, particularly as the material which you have returned was specially designed for your chassis and is of no value whatever to us. | ||
