COPY. 1113 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Kingsbury. Dec. 21st. 1936. I have received your memo. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/R.16.12.36. I am sorry but I do not remeber what the R.R.Sch. 1022 for Ph.III refers to. With regard to the scheme for increased oil supply to the push rod end of the rockers. I have had three cars fitted up with the extra supply and the felt pellets fitted. Two are the London Trials cars and the other a Ph.III belonging to a Mr. Worth. 3-AZ-172. This car is at the present moment in the repair dept. at the Works. The Felt pellet scheme is so far satisfactory and could be adopted. The felt we use is E.77877 used on the Ph.II rocker cover. We made them 1/32 larger than the dia. of the hole in the rocker vis. 7/32 dia. 4 are fitted which we sent in using 7 the pellets were made from an unknown quality of felt. With regard to the Ph.III. 3-AZ.172 which is at the Works. This car has been returned to Cricklewood for over oiling. The L shaped rings were fitted and 200 miles oil con. taken with no better results. The average con. was 400 M.P.G. It was still over oiling and Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} after consulation with Mr.Cowen, sent it up to the Works. Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} on the 'phone informed Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} that an improvement could be obtained by fitting tighter valve guides and new grummets, you ill probably have heard from Conduit St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} about this car.
