cars. Although no doubt the present scheme can be improved it is certain that failures have been very few. as soon as the modified schemes are instructed and approved they should be adopted.

The design for the thermostat shutters is to be slightly modified. We are waiting for designs for this.

PHANTOM 11 LEFT-HAND CHASSIS.

R's chief criticism with the left-hand P.11 car was the appearance of complications on the carburetter side of the engine compared with the present right-hand car. We had got the auto-klean filter on that side and also the control of the extra oil. Also the arrangement of pipes to the hot spot into the oil filter were not as neat as they might be. This was realized before the car went away, but there was no time to modify them. The engine controls are also unnecessarily complicated. A modified scheme for this has already been sent through. The proposal is, therefore, to fit the modified controls, improve the running of the pipes and if possible fit the petrol filter on the oposite side of the engine.

R.{Sir Henry Royce} criticised the design of the bumpers but these were purchased from America. We have so far not embarked on the production of bumpers.

We found that the bumpers were very useful. In one case, coming back from Switzerland we had to put the car on the train for 15 miles to avoid going over a pass which was covered with snow. The railway track was not much longer
