Re: Deposits from Cooling Systems. -------------------------------- We have examined the deposits which were present in the water pump casings submitted - 3AX147 and 3AZ238, and have found them to consist of the following.- 3AX147. Chiefly aluminium oxide with moderate amounts of copper and iron oxides, traces of magnesium oxide and a little organic matter. 3AZ238. Chiefly aluminium oxide with small amounts of copper oxide. The colour of the deposit from 3AX147 was brown, and that from 3AZ238 white; the brown colour of the former being due to the iron oxide and organic matter present. These deposits have resulted from the action of the cooling water on the metallic parts; notably aluminium, of the systems; there was no evidence of other substances likely to cause corrosion having been present.
