1300. R.R.Ltd Derby To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} copy to By VAI/25-3-39 Re Chassis B154 M.R. Capt. Molyneux With reference to Sr's conversation over the telephone with you, concerning the two failures of the steering rollers and Sr/V4A/ET24-3-39, from which you will observe that the roller failed on the steering column removed from B 182 M.R. As mentioned in our memo the second steering column which we fitted was taken from B 160 M.R. It has occured to us that should by any chance a batch of faulty rollers have been delivered to the "Works", then it is possible that the one fitted to B 160 M.R. steering may be likewise; this is only a suppo-sition on our part but would it be of interest to you if we sent you the steering box of B160 M.R. for a bump test etc? We can easily do this because we have removed B 160 M.R. steering from the above car, in order to fit the new one as soon as it arrives. If you therefore agree to our suggestion, we can upon receipt of a telegram from you, dispatch the box by Airmail; we personally think it may be a good idea. Up to the time of writing, we have not discovered anything wrong with the chassis that could cause damage to the steering column. AS the two rollers have broken up in large and small bits, can anything be wrong with the hardening? SR/VA PS. The new steering arrived this afternoon And is now being fitted | ||
