X8940 Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre. France. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}I/Crn.15.5.25. To: "HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}" From: G.W.Hancock. --------------------- On yesterday's run the maximum speed allowed was 50 m.p.h., as the engine was slightly stiff. after the day's run the engine was quite O.K. Examination of cylinders shewed pistons well lubricated and even. Oil consumption was good, but to-day's run will shew how it is affected by high speeds. N.S.F. spring, rear shackle pin we have had the same trouble with this pin as previously reported on the O.S.F. We had to dismantle this last evening, and grind the pin, as the lubricating holes are not opposite. The pin was on the point of seizure. We would suggest that the lubricating hole, either in pin or bracket, should be elongated to allow for inaccuracies in machining. This pin used to be lubricated directly from the end. One lubricator in the present design feeds the top and bottom pins. We have reported on the daily sheet that the coupling is quite O.K. Examination shewed that the slight swelling, previously reported, is still in the same condition. A slight swelling has now appeared in two more places, i.e. between the spider. The fabric does not shew any signs of fracture, and rivets are all quite O.K. We would earnestly recommend that better oil cooling be provided for the engine oil. The car, generally, is running very well. G.W.Hancock. | ||
