To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} X7010 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}5/MJ.13.9.29. S.S NITRO ALLOY CRANKSHAFTS. X7010. X499 We understand that two of these are now available. We should like these both to be machined with the larger pins and one to be finished off suitable for the low inertia slipper wheel. The other one to be left with the front end un-machined, so that we could use it for either damper. We propose to run the shaft first in white metal bearings to prove the steel, and then we think it would be most profitable to try it in Duralumin bearings. If therefore you can instruct both big end and main bearings in this material, they could be made in parallel with the shaft and we could then test them when we have tried the shaft under present standard conditions.
