For attention of Mr.H.E.West. 6th January, 1932. Dear Sirs, Interchangeability. With reference to the writer's recent interview with your Messrs. West and Royce, when details were given of your proposal to adopt a battery of such dimensions that it will be interchangeable with some battery to be found in world-wide service stations, we have gone carefully into the matter and beg to make an interim report. At the interview mention was made of the Ford battery, but we feel that you would be well advised to adopt the dimensions of one of the Exide batteries which is obtainable at any service station throughout the world. The two universal Exide batteries are the 3 XC13 and the 3 XC15. The XC13 battery could be fitted with robust Rolls-Royce elements, but these would give only 70 ampere-hours compared with the present capacity of 87 ampere-hours. The XC15 battery could be fitted with robust Rolls-Royce elements, type XR5, with a capacity of 87 ampere-hours. We enclose sketches of the completed cells of these two types, also sketches showing the dimensions and contour of the Ford-A and Ford-B batteries. Even with the larger size, when one compares the prices in Catalogue M which the undersigned left with Mr.West, it will be appreciated that the change would be accompanied by an appreciable reduction in price on the present prices. | ||
