re: CHASSIS B.8.GA - Paris Trials Car

With reference to our memo of yesterday's date ref. Sr/VAI4/GM.14.12.36, we have to-day decided to dismantle the engine and do the complete job viz:-

Fit the RR.56 big ends shims (connecting rods complete)
Fit the RR.56 rear main bearing and drill an extra and opposite hole in each of the main journals of the crankshaft.

Concerning this drilling operation, you mention in your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Bwdl.4/AP.8.12.36 that this is a "difficult and long job". As you wish us to carry this out on the above chassis, we shall be pleased to have your recommendations as to the easiest and best way of carrying out the drilling operation.

We did not have any difficulty in drilling the crankshaft of chassis B.6.BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}, because we carried out the drilling operation after the main journals had been ground to .010" undersize.

We take it that the drilling of an extra hole in n°. 7 (rear) main journal will not allow any oil to pass the rear bearing into the clutch pit.

Sr/VA.
