R R 235 A (100) T (P & P S) G (8-19) G 2460. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to GC. c. to EU. c. to Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Ep.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} ORIGINAL RECEIVED X4228 X4228 X4229 GOSHAWK THROTTLE. I am extremely pleased to hear that you have discovered that there is a distinct advantage in altering the butterfly valve so that the shut position is 10°, and that you find this a more usual angle with butterfly throttles. I am quite in agreement with the drawings being altered so as to use this angle or better still one a little greater of about 12½°, which we will make our standard. We shall now have the improved throttle control which is very desirable, having (1) the spring on the throttle valve lever itself, (2) the more gradual opening by hand, and (3) the improved angle of 12½°. The other modifications which we are very interested in are the larger extra air valve, and the slower opening of the starter carburetter by the altered taper of the needle. I should like you to send me one of these improved carburetters as soon as possible. It would naturally be fitted with a conical jet restrictor. The petrol level window is of less importance but would also add to the interest, and it could be incorporated in the one you send me. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
