hard carbon found in the previous test. Therefore we may
say that from these tests :-

(1) The gumming tendency is less with rings
having large groove clearance than those
having small clearance.

(2) The gumming tendency is more marked with
weak than with stiff rings.

We are further pursuing these experiments with the
object of determining the influence on the problem of oil
passage past the rings and the stiffness.
