Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}20/AL. 25.6.40. D.Frise,Esq., Chief Aircraft Designer, Bristol Aeroplane Company, Filton House, BRISTOL. Dear Frise, Have you any gun mounting bits which you would like us to test on our Range here to see if they will stand the recoil of the 40 mm. gun? Whilst we have not got perfectly reliable automatic operation of the gun yet, we have something which is quite advanced enough for preliminary test in the air. The gun has functioned perfectly for bursts up to 12 rounds and you should come down and see a demonstration when you have a little while to spare. Incidentally, I thought I might come down with Mr. Viale on September 5th. or 6th. to see how your big turrets, etc., are going on and also to show you a model of our half inch gun, which is now on test. Yours sincerely, | ||
