X4548. Westinghouse "Spark-C" Tester.

This instrument has been tested on bench spark-gaps, using an R Bosch magneto, and its operation appears to be as follows.

As the brilliancy of the glow in the tube depends on the current passing, & as the latter is merely a capacity displacement, the brilliancy will depend on the voltage applied and the frequency with which it oscillates.

These displacements occur in the space surrounding any apparatus generating spark discharges, so that the tube glows when brought any-where near to it.
