| WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}8/T/W23916. Re. Special Springs for Commander Briggs' Car. Commander Briggs asked Mr.Johnson and Mr.Johnson sent us a wire on September 6th, asking if it would be possible to fit to Commander Briggs' car new cantilever type springs, similar to those on 49GB. We consulted Mr. Hives and he informed us that there was no material ready for fitting this type of spring except for the set on Mr.Royce's car. We, accordingly, wired Mr.Johnson regretting that we had not the necessary fittings for changing over and we informed him that if we were to keep his car at the Works until these were fitted it would be some little time before he could have the car back. To my surprise, on Tuesday last, when Commander Briggs brought this matter up whilst we were at the Admiralty, Mr.Hives informed me that some parts had been found and that it would not be a long job to fit them. We have, therefore, confirmed this to Commander Briggs and have advised Mr.Johnson of the alteration in position of this job. I shall be glad, therefore, if you will let me know when a set of springs of this type is ready for fitting to Commander Briggs' car, so that I can arrange for the car to come to the Works. Commander Briggs has informed me that he must have the car back quickly and cannot agree that it should remain while these springs parts are being prepared, but will let us have it back when the spring parts are ready.
