SECRET. 1381. Les.1/B.16.8.39. Minutes of Chassis Conference held in the Board Room on Monday, 14th August, 1939. Present - Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LS. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/JRD. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/McC. Absent - Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Bentley V.{VIENNA} It was stated by RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/McC. that 31 cars including the 4 Corniche were required before the English Show. 4 B.Vs{J. Vickers} and 1 Corniche were in the Test Dept. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/McC. reported the following troubles - (1) On the Corniche the Petrol Gauge had insufficient clearance from the Girling Brake Equaliser. (2) Gear Box rattles at low speed were audible on open cars. It was thought that these would not cause complaint with completed cars. (3) The fact that it was necessary to change over all the Propeller Shaft centre bearing housings to a type incorporating far more rubber. In view of the fact that chassis which have been tested are satisfactory without the new scheme, it was decided that no chassis should be modified until the present scheme was found to be unsatisfactory on the particular chassis. Park Wards. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} stated that Park Wards should have all their panels by the end of next week. Costs. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/JRD. said that the whole chassis labour costs would be complete in three to four weeks. This should include the costs of Silver Ripple. Avon Tyres. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} was alarmed at the failures of tyres on the Corniche chassis which had occurred in France, particularly as failures had occurred at very low mileages. Starter Motors. Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} stated that the cost of the Lucas Starter Motor as drawn for the cast iron engine, would be £2.0.6d. If we were able to use their completely standard starter motor, the price would be £2. 1. 0d. (Contd..) | ||
