[Underlined] Chassis 9 G.III.

We have received your letter dated 26th inst., together with memoranda.

I notice in your report "BJ" from "Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}", re faults, mention of steering wobbles at low speeds. May I draw your attention to the fact that on this test, we have not had any low speed wobbles. What we shall expect "CWB" to complain about will be servo rattles, general rattling of the car, engine gears noisy. Re these, it must be perfectly understood that we wasted no time in trying to grind in the gears, as previous to fitting a new gear wheel, the engine gears were very good, and to try and quieten a new gear wheel here, which had not been run at all, would have been only a waste of time, and would not have forwarded us with our test in any shape or form.

At the present time, we consider the steering to be very good. It is quite probable that the swerving of the car, previously reported, will be brought up, also occasional sharp shooks on the steering wheel.

We take it that our reports will cease after 7,000 miles, and "CWB" will attend to this. At 9,000 miles, we take it that the car will leave Chateauroux, and all daily routines will have finished. I should very much like to know exactly what my job will be here after "CWB" arrives whether I have to return to England, or become a driver ? If the latter, will you please arrange for someone else to take my place. [Handwritten note in right margin: - I know little Georgie!]

The 7,000 miles report will be forwarded to you in due course. At the present time we are having an epidemic of breakages, which will entirely alter the conditions of the car from which it started on its tests.

G.W.Hancock.
