It will be seen from the reports from France that there have been several failures of wing stays on 9-G-111. There were also failures on the previous 10,000 miles test.

The wing stays are the standard R.R. The fracture occurs near the flange where they are bolted to the frame. In two instances we know of, they have actually broken through the bolt holes.

One reason for the wing stays failing is that the wings themselves are dropping to bits. This is not unusual because we have never yet sent a car to France on which the body work has not collapsed during the 10,000 miles test.
