X.1729 To PN.{Mr Northey} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/LG18.7.21. x3457 X3922 X1729 x3763 RE. CAR FOR MR. DUGDALE. With reference to your PN{Mr Northey}23/CM13.7.21. We could certainly, if desired, rig up 1.EX Car in order for you to give a demonstration but we doubt whether this is the best thing to do. 1.EX Car has run about 15,00 miles and is not a very nice car we should imagine to take Mr. Dugdale out on, to convince him that the R-R is better than the Cadillac. We should suggest for that job you need the very best car you can obtain. We consider the most satisfactory arrangement would be to fit a 14-tooth axle on to your open-trials Car and for it to be taken off again as soon as the test is over. If you are going to Manchester to see Mr. Dugdale and you called at Derby on the way, we could change the axle on your car and replace it again on your way back. With reference to the items mentioned in Mr. Dugdale's letter of the improvements fitted to the Cadillac. There is a R-R tyre pump designed which could be fitted to his car, if he desired it. He could also have a thermostat control for the water temperature if his car is not already fitted with this. As regards a condenser for the radiator, we cannot see any use for this in England. A condenser is fitted on to American cars with the idea of saving alcohol which is put into the radiators of all cars in the Winter-time. The condenser simply consists of a small tin box on the side of the framethrough which the vent from the radiator passes through. contd:- | ||
