To BJ: from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CWB. <handwritten>x985</handwritten> Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG29.8.25. 10,000 MILES TEST IN FRANCE. <strike>Y5840</strike> <strike>x985</strike> From our experience we should say, except for isolated cases, that the quality of petrol in England varies as much as it does in France. The petrol Companies in France are controlled by the same group as control the English Companies, - Shell, Anglo American and B.P. We quite recently had a note from Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} stating that they had received a number of complaints from customers of detonation which they have been able to prove to the customer would be overcome if a different fuel was used. In this case we believe the fuel which was complained of was B.P. We know from our experience at the Works, that even the same brand of petrol can vary with different deliveries. We do not see that it would be very useful to send a particular consignment of petrol to France. After all, our cars are expected to run with the average fuels which <handwritten>can be</handwritten> <strike>are</strike> obtained, and the Testers carrying out experimental tests are sufficiently intelligent to be able to report on fuels which are likely to affect the running.
