| -2- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Mths.{Reg Matthews}15/KW.7.4.36. We should now like as soon as possible, three set of pistons having the heat break sawcut in the scraper ring groove but at the same time retaining the normal skirt clearances; i.e., the diameter at the top of skirt to be 3.247" and at the bottom 3.2475", and with extra strength in the crown. We could increase the weight of the piston from the normal 18 1/4 ozs. to 20 ozs. to allow for the extra material in the crown. We should like these pistons fitting with rings suitable for bores .003" oversize. We also require a further three sets of pistons as previously supplied, with the heat break sawcut in the scraper ring groove, suitable for standard 3 1/4" bores. We are despatching with the cracked piston a setof rings removed from a customer's car in which there was a complaint of high oil consumption. They are the only set of rings we have here, and whether you will be able to find anything interesting about them we do not know. We are sending an official order through our Order Office for the six sets of pistons we are asking for. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
