Re 189-GY...Franckeiss.

-----

I have read your various reports upon this matter and also Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst5/AD4.4.32 from Derby, and as I see the matter it is as follows:-

Mr.Franckeiss has experienced this trouble three times, and has therefore had three motors fitted.

This recent motor is found by the Works to be in order. Have you any record as to whether the other two motors were found to be in order?
It certainly seems that there must be something else in the system that is causing this series of breakdowns, as Mr.Franckeiss is, in any case, quite peculiar in having had so much trouble.

On April 1st he said that in about six weeks time he hopes to go to the South of France with the car, so that I think we ought to try and get hold of his car before then and go all over his starter system with a view to finding the fault, or at least satisfying ourselves that everything is now quite in order. We should not like him to have further trouble when he gets to the Continent.

I therefore propose writing to him to the effect that on examination we found the starter motor in perfect order, and therefore we think that during the course of our man's work he must have put right some other defect that was really the cause of the trouble as, of course, the starter was working satisfactorily when he left the car.

At the same time, in view of the fact that he has had these troubles previously we would like to have an opportunity of going all through the starter system on his car before he goes to France. We would like him to take the car to our Cricklewood Repairs Works to do this, however, as we have better facilities there than would be available at his house.

Will you please let me know if you see any objection to this.
