With the size and weight of our Phantom II and 20 Hp. dynamos and batteries limited and the fundamental electrical arrangement fixed, the possible variations of dynamo internal arrangement enable the available output characteristics of the system to be varied to some extent better to suit the needs of varying cases. These variations comprise :- (1) Variation of the number of armature conductors, the conductor coarseness being varied approximately reciprocally with the number. (2) The dimensions of slots in relation to teeth or more generally the proportion of copper to iron. (3) The form and span of field pole pieces and (4) the coarseness of the field winding and the corresponding span of the control to,positive brush across which the field winding is connected. Speaking generally of all cases included in the above and limiting our remarks for the moment to the cases in which there is no form of dynamo output control other than manual; | ||
