With reference to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}2/R.27.11.35, the following is the latest position with regard to the items mentioned :-

PHANTOM III.

Slow Running.

The Duplex Stromberg Carburetter is slightly better for slow running than the R.R. 4 carburetter system. We would not say, however, that it is above criticism. It is at present fitted to the 6-port cylinder head, with a 4-port induction pipe. It is possible that when the 4-port head is used with this carburetter, the slow running will be further improved. We attach a copy of a letter from Zeniths relative to price. The existing 4 carburetter scheme must cost about £25.

Carburetter Flooding.

The 4 carburetter scheme on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III has given little or no trouble since that experienced immediately after erection, probably due to foreign matter in the system.

Chunking in the Drive.

It seems that the Duplex Stromberg Carburetter will be better for this fault than the 4 carburetter system.

Tyre Noises.

Rubber shackles improve this feature, but the car's directional stability suffers. We have some information from America, but have not yet had time to try out the suggestions.

Clutch.

We are trying the Borg & Beck clutch centres and also the Long clutch centre. So far we have not got a smooth take-up.
