To CJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c. to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} ORIGINAL EFC Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LG9.4.20. 2 X.1163. X.3443. RE. KLAXON HORNS. With reference to your memo CJ12/9.3.20, requesting that experiments should be carried out to ascertain to what extent the noise of the klaxon horn is lost by reason of its present position under the bonnet. We find that on a standard car the Klaxon Horn can be heard at a distance of half a mile - with the horn outside the bonnet it can be heard 6/10ths. of a mile away. On 2,EX Car which was run in France, we found that the diaphragm is cracked; under this condition the klaxon horn would be of very little use. We have had a number of diaphragms break and the matter has been taken up seriously with the makers. We recommend in future that any cars which go on the Continent should carry with them a spare diaphragm for the Klaxon Horn. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EFC APR 9 RECEIVED. | ||
