After brazing, the rod should be allowed to cool in air so as to leave the steel in a normalised condition. If the remainder of the rod has been got into a normalised condition in the first place, then no further heat treatment is required. It is considered that the steel is in as good a condition as it can be after normalising and subsequent heat treatment and quenching after machining is not necessary.
