After brazing, the rod should be allowed to cool in air so as to leave the steel in a normalised condition. If the remainder of the rod has been got into a normalised condition in the first place, then no further heat treatment is required.

It is considered that the steel is in as good a condition as it can be after normalising and subsequent heat treatment and quenching after machining is not necessary.

If either of methods (2) or (3) is adopted, the stud should be made as in fig. 2.
