re. 20-HP Chassis Noisy Dynamos.

Further to my report EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}35/H31.10.23 and your memos BY6/P5.11.23 and BY2/P12.12.23 - we are still having trouble with noisy dynamos, although the percentage now does not seem to be so great as it was.

We have now replaced the aluminium bracket with the cast-iron type on about 5 noisy dynamos, but we were not impressed that the cast-iron bracket was alone the cure, although in some cases a slight improvement was manifest.

We have since realised, however, that Mr. Brock has been able to effect one or two definite improvements by replacing the ball bearing contained in this bracket, and we now feel that the bearing is of more importance than the bracket. It may be that the material of the bracket has some resonant effect, but the initial trouble may be due to the ball bearing, and we feel this is a point on which EFC. could make further tests to advantage.

The above also replies to EFC's memo reference EFC4/T23.11.23.

We will also if possible make some attempt to report on some future noisy dynamos as to whether these can be produced by the field winding separately excited only as suggested in this memo.

Although as pointed out above the percentage of noisy dynamos is not so great as it was, the dealy and expense in overcoming this trouble is now more serious than before as dynamo drives are not now interchangeable.
