(6) Where required it must be possible for the gear to be Automatic and on the other hand it must be possible to arrange the control so that any ratio can be set by a lever or equivalent , and the gear must produce the ratio. It should be possible for instance to apply the gear to a Screw cutting lathe. The above 6 conditions definitely rule out all Friction or Hydraulic or Inertia ( Pendulum ) devices and also dispose of all gears depending upon variable cranks or eccentrics , in short all gears wich produce a variable motion during one revolution. A little consideration of these conditions does not apparently leave a loophole for any gear , but the Invention referred to does conform to all of them. If you are interested in this , it would be easier to explain the gear verbally than from written descriptions. I have designs for a motor car and also a motor bicycle , and could send these on to you , but if you could meet me in London at the Office of Mr Dalgety Henderson's friend, Mr. F.H.Stafford of the Worcester Training Ship, 72 Mark Lane , London . I would be pleased to bring the designs there. Yours faithfully BWallace | ||
