FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL +4222 X8010 X8070 PHANTOM LIGHTENED CRANKSHAFT AND G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 1. TYPE SPRING DRIVE. We send herewith LeC. 2462. shewing the above. Particulars of the driving spring will be sent later. The driving spring used on the present Phantom is exceptionally stiff, and has a very high stress. We cannot get this poundage into the new spring drive, and at the same time we do not think it will be necessary, owing to the different way in which the timing gear is driven. The crankshaft shewn is intended to be machined from the existing forging. We want you to leave as much metal in the outline of the webs as possible, making them of oval shape.
