E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 1297. Radiator Suspension Bracket. milled from solid instead of pressed steel. 12 hrs. without breaking on 2" bumps @ 105 revs. p.m. - Frame gave way @ this point (it was taken from scrap) Thinks it quite a safe result to work upon. Rear Axle fitted with 880x120 Dunlop Twin Tyres & Wheels. RC{R. Childs} 1411. 9 hrs. 3 mins. in a series of short runs, off side axle tube broke @ shoulder. It is .275" thick 1/16" radius in corner. g 2760. Bumping Test of Rear Axle Tube. g 2760 (near side) RC{R. Childs} 118K. 7 hrs. 11 mins. broke after running over alternate bumps @ 105 r.p.m. Breakage occured @ shoulder where inner wheel bearing fits. It is .275" thick & rad. in corner is nil @ this point. Marston round tube honeycomb radiator 1/8" thick being 20 lbs. lighter than the bonded Orme Evans Eq. tube (6ins thick). 20 hrs. over 2" alternate bumps @ 100 revs per min. without leakage occurring. Orme Evans 20" x 5" square tube honeycomb bonded Radiator with English drawn tubes. 30 hrs. After 18 hrs. 10 mins. 2 small weeps occurred on front face. @ 22". 30. 4 more appeared, (6 in all). 2" alternate bumps all being on front face & not actually inside the tubes - appear to be due to soldering & not defects. 106 revs per min. test run for 30 hrs and no more appeared.
