TESTS WITH EAC.11. CARS IN FRANCE.

We have received a report that the car (98-NK) is now running with the modified front axle which gives std. 40/50 HP. pivot lean. It is a definite improvement compared with the centre-point axle on the bad roads in France.

When the old axle was taken off the car, they found that the bolts holding the steering levers were again stretched and loose. (Handwritten: Retightened system) They are making a special point of watching this on the new axle. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} is proposing to increase the diameter of the bolts. At present there is one ¼" and one 9/16" bolt holding each lever.

They also found one of the buffer springs broken in the side steering tube. This spring was one of the present standard strong springs.

The report also states that brake juggers have become very much less - in fact, they have practically disappeared. The only way in which this can be accounted for, is that a slight amount of oil has got on to the front brakes when oiling the operating mechanism.

We have sent the necessary parts to France so that 9-PK car (fitted with the agreed type servo) can be modified in the same manner as the cars we have altered here so that the servo will give ample braking.
