Re: Phantom II - Owner Comments

Chassis 18-GY, J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} P. Morgan, came in yesterday with a complaint of starter failure and examination showed the switch points to be out of adjustment.

This was easily cured, however, but, when bringing it to our attention, the chauffer offered some interesting comments in which you will undoubtedly be interested.

He picked Mr. Morgan up after church in the morning and could not start the engine to get away. Mr. Morgan offered to show him how he drives his own Rolls in England, but had the same result.

They next lifted the bonnet and examined the starter motor and Mr. Morgan stated his dislike for its position and lack of accessibility. He also wondered what keeps water out of this part. (For your information we have already found one PII starter motor water soaked and on the same car removed several pieces of charred wood from the pan beneath.)

Mr. Morgan next suggested cranking and was disturbed to find that the front bumper had to be removed before this operation could be carried out The chauffer suggested, we believe getting his idea from Mr. Morgan, that the bush through the radiator matrix be made an integral part of the bottom tank and of sufficient strength to be the main crank support. This would allow cranking between the front crossmember and the radiator.
