PRODUCTION TEST OF PAPER DIELECTRIC CONDENSER FOR BATTERY IGNITION. (Paraffin waxed paper dielectric). (1) It is assumed that each condenser, after production and before encasing, will be stored for a day or two previous to test under conditions which will enable it reasonably to settle down in capacity. (2) The condenser, still out of its case, shall be tested by applying to its terminals an alternating voltage of 400 (R.M.S.) for a period of one minute, through a light fuse, without breakdown. (3) Now verify that the condenser is capable of holding a static charge. If this is the case, the condenser, after being disconnected from the 400 volt supply, should be capable of producing a spark, when one end of a wire, the other end of which is connected to one condenser terminal, be brought in contact with the other terminal. (4) The condenser shall now undergo a preliminar test for capacity, being placed in series with an A.C. milliammeter reading up to 30 milliamperes, across an alternating voltage round about 200 at a grquency of 50 cycles. | ||
