X1110 CE Smith BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. E.Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} De. HHC. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Clutch Operating Linkage Cantilever Pedals. Bentley. We send herewith N.Sch.4776 which shows our suggestion for the above. This scheme requires the provision of a bracket on the gearbox for the fulcrum of an intermediate lever between the pedal and the clutch operating lever. We show this bracket attached to an existing facing which is modified by the provision of three studs instead of two. We have provided the extra pedal travel to accommodate wear asked for in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.12/KW.25.11.35. The clutch casing and crankcase can be identical for Bentley and 25/30 as far as the clutch operation is concerned. A facing must be provided on the crankcase for the stay to the pedal shaft in the case of the Bentley, which will not be used on the 25-30 as the higher position of the clutch pedal shaft on this car will require the continued use of the present bracket. The boss for the clutch operating shaft bearing being the same length on both Bentley and 25-30 casings will not be as long as it could be for the 25-30, but no harm will result from this. We have moved the boss for the lubricator to the underside of the centre line of the shaft, not because of any difficulty on the Bentley but because we consider that the clearance between this boss and the pedal shaft on the 25-30 is too small. The forks for the diagonal stay are the same for both cars. The upper eye for this stay cannot be the same for both cars but the lug on the pedal shaft can be if the lug we show is used also on the 25-30 and the forged bracket on the crankcase of the 25-30 is altered to suit. | ||
