Comparison of vehicle riding comfort and suspension performance through a series of tests on the Phantom, Silver Ghost, and Hispano Suiza models.

| contd :- -2- which we measure can easily be swamped by any one of the small adjustments to tyre pressures and shock dampers which chauffeurs are in the habit of making. TEST II. Demonstrates that tyre pressures are quite one of the most important features with our present suspension having regard to the type of complaint in question. TEST III. Shews clearly that if the centre of gravity of the car can be pushed back, better riding will result. Incidentally Test IIIa. and Test Ib. demonstrate the difference between cars of the same type. In this case the big closed Phantom with more weight over the rear axle rode better than the corresponding open touring Phantom. TEST IV. In a comparison of the riding of the 20 HP. Silver Ghost, Phantom and Hispano Suiza. As will be ascertained by reference to the chart shewing the qualitative value of the tests, the difference between the Hispano and the Phantom riding comfort is very much greater than between the Phantom and the 20 HP. There is not the least doubt that the Hispano rides like a truck. We have not included the Lancia because this car has been in pieces for examination. The figure for the Silver Ghost is one we obtained to compare with the Phantom when in both cases the springs were well lubricated.
