87520. To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/MJ.16.6.31. X.235. X.7520. X.5520. HYDRAULIC SHOCK ABSORBERS. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}3/D15.6.31. The P.2 car (25-EX) which we expect to go to France early next week, will have a new rear shock damper. This shock damper will be inter-changeable with the new one it is proposed to fit to the 25 HP. front. The front shock damper on 25-EX will be the same type we have used all along on Phantom 2 except with additional improvements such as improved lubrication and hardened bush. We look forward with the hope that some day we shall receive from W.A. a new front damper for Phantom 11. The present one is very inaccessible and very expensive. On the 25 HP. which will be going to France shortly, we have two new shock absorbers. Except that the casing of the rear one is different, all the working parts are inter-changeable with the front and also the rear shock damper of Phantom 2. The position at the moment is that we are satisfied with the new shock dampers we are proposing to try out in France should give very much less trouble in service. As regards the further improvement which Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} mentions in his memo Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M13.6.31., this originally was supposed to be a cheaper production. Once we have completed our tests in France we shall not be very interested in that shock absorber. With regard to shock absorbers adjusted from the driver's seat, in our report Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/KT.13.6.31. we give the position of these, which is as far as we can go until we receive some scheme of how it is intended to fit these shock absorbers to a car and how to operate them. If it was an easy job we would have done this on our own, but after going into it we think it is a job which should be done by the D.O. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
