BY/CS. 16-G-4. RE RUSTING OF SPINDLES ON STARTER MOTOR. Referring to R.2/M.5.7.32. there is a drain hole provided in the pocket containing the pinion, we therefore do not think that it is accumulation of water that has caused the trouble. We have had similar defects on other semi-ventilated parts, which we traced to the parts being erected and completed during dry weather, with the humidity conditions varying later, so that moisture was deposited on the part, with the result that we have had :- (a) Foot pedal mechanism in the clutch pit, (b) Side lever tubes in the arm projecting from the gearbox, (c) Clutch parts. all showing very rusty conditions. We will arrange for another hole on top to complete the ventilation, and in addition will cadmium plate the parts. RECEIVED 12 JUL 1932 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} By | ||
