WST x6051. Hotel de France, Chateauroux. Indre. France. 1st August 1934. To HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/WST. From G.W.H. lamps. In the first place we were not referring to 4 B IV Head lamps. Our report dealt with 21 G IV. These lamps could not be converted to either vertical dipping or to the right for continental conditions. Dipping to the left is not allowed or safe on the continent. The lamps are marked L or R.{Sir Henry Royce} it was impossible to make the change to the right, because the junction box fouled the dipping unit, and would not allow the fitting up of the reflector, regardless of working. These lamps we have not seen previously, and are not to our specification. Have a look at lamps on WOR{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s car Re the P 100 Headlamps on 4 B IV, our remarks were that they did not dip sufficiently for oncoming drivers. SPEEDOMETER 21 G IV. To return the speedometer would entail numerous difficulties with the Customs. I have got H.GRYLLS to calibrate the various readings, so that we know what the actual speeds are. With this knowledge we are not worrying about it. Your letter to H.GRYLLS of the 26/7/34 re suppressors has been handed over to me. We are fully aware of the complaints, but actually the test over here is not suitable, as we do very little distance slow running. G.W.H. GWHancock. | ||
