Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 28th February, 1938. Ben Hopkins, Esq., Cleveland Graphite Bronze Co., 880, East 72nd Street, CLEVELAND, OHIO. Dear Mr. Hopkins, Very many thanks for your letter of Feb.16th. As soon as you can release any information on the clutch construction which you are working on with Chryslers, we shall be very glad to have the necessary information. You will be interested to know that so far we have not had a "come back" on our aluminium tin alloy with another Company, we are making various sets for Companies such as Leylands, Dennis, A.E.C. You will also be interested to know that after trial the E.R.A. Racing Co. have standardised it for their 1938 programme. Our main concern has been with production difficulties, we now seem to be getting on top of this. We note what John Palm says about the servo, but we do not think there will be any difficulty in this case due to the reduced co-efficient of friction, because we can double the end load to compensate for it without very much difficulty. The main trouble so far is that the high unit pressure has caused fading with the normal friction materials. We should, therefore, be glad if you could let us have some-thing to test. We are looking forward to seeing some of your people over here again soon. Your various friends in Derby wish me to give you their very kind regards. Yours sincerely, | ||
