SpectreCodename for Phantom III Engine Unit. We have now had several hours' running on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III engine. We attach a curve which shows that we have obtained about 185 B.H.P. The engine runs exceedingly smoothly up to 4000 R.P.M. Amongst the minor troubles which have been observed are - the valve gear is rather noisy, also the timing gears. We have had two valve spring failures. The water circulation requires slight modification. The oil temperature regulator seems to function satisfactorily. We have run an hour's endurance at maximum power without any failures other than the valve springs. The engine will be stripped for inspection almost immediately. HA/Rh.{R. Hollingworth} | ||
