We tabulate a few points for E's consideration. Silent Tappets 40/50 Cadillac Type. We have all the schemes we need on the silent tappet mechanism, our main concern now is with the other parts of the valve gear. At the moment, our limiting factor is that the Exhaust Valves are lifted off their seats at about 3100 revs, the inlet about 100 revs higher. We are doing some experiments with valve springs and shortly should be able to say whether high rate, high seat load or high max. load is desirable. In the meantime we think that, now that our exhaust valves are made in K.E.965 that they are un-necessarily heavy and that weight can also be got out of the inlet valves. Also that we might be able to increase the rigidity and/or decrease the weight of the rest of the valve gear by careful design. P.II Engine Mounting. We have obtained such encouraging results with the Terraplane mounting on the 20/25 that we feel that designs should be going forward for the P.II. This already has central mounted radiator and cantilever pedals so that the engine mounting only requires attention to get preliminary tests. | ||
