EH1/LG.251018 x-338/ X 338/ TESTS ON "EAGLE" CYLINDERS MADE IN AMERICA The appearance of these cylinders is very good By the look of the jackets we should say the pressings are better than we are using at present. There are/signs of no much hand work having been done on them. They look as though they have been finished in a die. The sparking plug bosses appear to have been pressed out in a die. Mr. Foy, who has seen the jackets and considers them quite a good job, but says that the sparking bosses have been formed with the jacket hot, he said we should find the metal drawn thin. We have cut sections out of the jacket and find that the thickness is quite uniform. It does vary .010" but this, if anything, is better than the average of ours because we at present are working the sparking plug bosses up by hand. We fitted 12 of these cylinders to an "Eagle" engine and ran it on the hanger. Below is a record of each cylinder. Cyl No. Remarks No 1 A Leak from the back of exhaust flange after 11 hrs. running. No. 2 A, Leak from the back of inlet flange 1 hr. running. Leak from vertical seam 5 hrs. running. No 3 A.{Mr Adams} Leak from vertical seam on exhaust side after 10 hours.
