To PN.{Mr Northey} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} x766 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG11.6.29. 21-EX CAR. x766 x7770 If 21-EX car is going to Grenoble for the express purpose of testing water temperatures, then the only reliable way to carry out the test is to have a known satisfactory Phantom car to compare it with. To take a car on the mountains will not teach us much, because we know for certain that if the conditions are favourable for boiling, any car we have ever made will boil, on the other hand, we also know that the complaints of boiling on the Phantom have been remarkably few. Therefore if the SS.{S. Smith} gives equal results to the Phantom, we should consider it satisfactory. We are still of the opinion that the most useful test which Sales can carry out with 21-EX would be to take the car right away and out of touch with the Works, and see how it behaves in the hands of the average driver. We should recommend that after PN.{Mr Northey} has driven the car, some of the less experienced drivers from Sales might usefully run it. This is the procedure which has been carried out previously. For carrying out over-heating tests, we have no need to go to Grenoble. We can arrange tests in England on hills on which we can boil the present Phantom. We will go ahead however in getting through the necessary papers to send the car to France. We are still waiting to hear from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} to what address he wishes us to send 21-EX car. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
