Hanbury - Head Complaints} 23.9.25. from EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}'s Dept. we are now in the position to deal with squeaking brakes on cars in owners' hands about which complaints are being made, by fitting Mr.Royce's approved and standardized scheme of damper which is being fitted to all "India" and "India" plus FWB. chassis. The improvement can be added on existing brake drums by turning down the flange on the drum itself, and fitting the new damper in place of the old type. The fact that some of the holes by which the old damper is secured may break through the rim of the reduced flange is of no consequence. In regard to the 40/50 HP. we have no remedy that we can apply. The matter is receiving the Experimental Dept's attention, but at the moment we have nothing from West WitteringHenry Royce's home town or so far as I am aware have the Experimental Dept. any information likely to provide a remedy. The fault in the case of the 40/50. HP. is:- a/- Occasional squeaking on the back brake drums. This is very rare. b/- Squeaking on four wheel brake cars on the front drums only when the front brakes are applied at low speeds. This is rather a squawk than a squeak, so far as my experience goes. It is rare, but when it occurs it is certainly an annoyance. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
