Collision report between chassis I.B.IV and a 10 HP Standard car due to icy road conditions.

1662 To D/L. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AVD12/R.10.12.36. REPORT ON COLLISION BETWEEN I.B.IV - RC.{R. Childs}1426. & A 10 H.P. STANDARD CAR - RC.{R. Childs}3966. I was proceeding with chassis I.B.IV, registration RC.{R. Childs}1426 along the London Road in the direction of Shardlow at 10.30.a.m. to-day following a lorry, speed about 20 m.p.h. when immediately after rounding the slight bend five miles from Derby, the car developed a front wheel skid on the icy surface of the road, which carried the car across the road to the off-side grass verge, where it came to a stop. A 10 H.P. Standard car - RC.{R. Childs}3966, driven by Mr. L. Powell, 31, Rowditch Avenue, Derby, was proceeding towards Derby and he was unable to avoid a collision. He stated that he was afraid to apply his brakes too hard for fear of skidding, and although he turned his steering to his offside, the two nearside front portions of the car came into impact. The damage sustained to I.B.IV was:- N/S front wing damaged N/S front headlight glass broken and spider damaged. Two bolts of front number plate support broken. The damage to the 10 H.P. standard was:- N/S Front dumb iron bent N/S Head lamp glass broken N/S Front spring leaves deranged Front number plate broken Front bumper damaged Radiator guard slightly damaged N/S front mudguard damaged. Passenger in I.B.IV was G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Titley, apprentice, Check No.2530. The weather was misty and visibility was, approximately, 50 yards.
