From the Rolls-Royce experimental archive: a quarter of a million communications from Rolls-Royce, 1906 to 1960's. Documents from the Sir Henry Royce Memorial Foundation (SHRMF).
Material specifications including ultimate tensile strength, elongation, and bend test requirements for a treated liner.

Identifier  ExFiles\Box 132\5\  scan0144
Date  23th August 1940 guessed

The ultimate tensile should not be less than 76 tons per square inch and the elongation not less than 7%.

The fracture after heat-treatment should be free from a course crystalline appearance and a round bend test piece cut from a treated liner should give a bend of not less than 70° before fracture.

We believe the foregoing is sufficient information to enable U.S.A. to form an accurate picture of our requirements, and we shall be glad to receive quotations as quickly as possible.
